Mister Cee has officially resigned from Hot 97. The legendary DJ, who has worked with rappers including Big Daddy Kane and The Notorious B.I.G., took to his daily show on NY radio this afternoon to announce his departure.
"Today is my last day on Hot 97...In reality, I kind of knew this day would come," Cee said.
The announcement comes on the heels of an internet allegation by a drag queen who says that she was solicited by Cee for sex. In the audio obtained by prostitute Bimbo Winehouse, someone who is being reported as Cee pays $100 in exchange for sex. Cee faced similar accusations a few months ago.
This is not the first allegation of this kind. Earlier this summer, Cee came under fire for supposedly picking up a male prostitute in NY. Cee went on air to denounce the rumors that he was gay and instead, claimed that he picked up a cop he thought was a female prostitute. “I am not gay,” Mister Cee told program director Ebro Darden on the station’s morning show. Cee further explained that the NYPD and media were blowing the entire thing out of proportion. "They tried to turn it around and say the female officer was a male officer. It was a sting operation" said Cee.
Today, Cee admitted that he has made mistakes that have hurt Hot 97, without going into any detail at the time. "I'm far form perfect. I have made my mistakes...I love this station with all my heart."
Hot 97 has released an official statement about his resignation.
“Due to some personal circumstances that have become public, after 20 years of service, Mr Cee has chosen to resign. We feel that this is in the best interest of both HOT 97 and Cee’s personal well-being. While we do not endorse the alleged activities, he is clearly facing a personal dilemma that is for him and only him to comment on. We are saddened by his departure; his contributions here at HOT 97 were great and we know him as a friend, a caring individual and significant hip hop advocate. We wish Mr Cee the best and will always consider him a family member of HOT 97. Moments ago, he officially signed off, on the air and will finish out his last show today on September 11, 2013, an already sad day for New York City.” – Alexandra Cameron, SVP/General Manager of HOT97
