Young Thug Arrested For Making Terroristic Threats
Atlanta artist Young Thug was arrested this morning (July 15). The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports that the “Lifestyle” rapper was taken into custody for allegedly threatening to shoot a Perimeter Mall security guard in the face and is being charged with making “terroristic threats.”
The publication says that the artist born Jeffrey Lamar Williams and a mall security guard got into a dispute on July 7. According the arrest warrant, Thugger threatened the security guard while being escorted from Perimeter Mall.
Jim Joyner of the US Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force says Young Thug was arrested this morning at 6 am in Sandy Springs, Georgia. He was booked into the Dekalb County Jail and is currently awaiting his bond hearing.
According to Legal Match, "The crime of 'making a terrorist threat' is a creation of the last decade, enacted at both the state and federal levels, after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. It is a very general law that can be used to prosecute terrorists, but has been used far more often to prosecute other violations of criminal law such as domestic violence, hate crimes, bomb threats, and school violence. Indeed, in many states, the term 'terrorist' has been amended to mean simply 'criminal.'"
