Chief Keef has announced plans for a concert that will be held to memorialize the toddler who was killed by a car fleeing the scene of rapper Capo’s fatal shooting.
Capo, 22 -- whose real name is Marvin Carr -- died on July 11 after being shot in the 7700 block of South Kingston Avenue in Chicago, according to The Chicago Tribune. About a half hour later, a car driven by the suspect involved in the shooting hit a 1-year-old boy who was in a stroller on the sidewalk in the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue, a few miles away from the initial crime scene. The toddler, identified as 1-year-old Dillan Harris, was pronounced dead.
"I was trying to save my baby. I never imagined this would happen ... My son gone so soon," Dillan's mother said. Photos from a memorial held for Dillan on Sunday, July 12, can be seen on The Chicago Tribune's website.
The publication reports that Chief Keef will hold the concert -- which will be a free event, with concertgoers encouraged to make donations to the young boy’s family -- in Chicago on Friday, July 17.
A spokesman for Chief Keef said that he “is just so heartbroken and appalled” by both deaths and wishes to do something to help Dillan's loved ones in the “out of control situation.”
The rapper currently lives in the Los Angeles area and plans to attend the show via hologram from a soundstage in Beverly Hills, Calif. He reportedly cannot be there in person due to outstanding warrants.
In addition to putting together the benefit concert, he has formed the Stop the Violence Now Foundation, with the goal to curb crime in Chicago.
After hearing about Capo’s death, several artists -- including Meek Mill and Fredo Santana -- shared their condolences on social media.
Chief Keef’s cousin, Mario Hess (known as rapper Big Glo), was fatally shot in Chicago in April 2014.
