Game Speaks On Leaving Interscope; Recruits Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Drake For New Mixtape
Original Story Despite recently releasing a visual for The R.E.D. Album track “The City” with Kendrick Lamar, Game is looking ahead to what’s next, specifically parting ways with Interscope Records and releasing a new mixtape, California Republic.
The options for Game are endless according to the Compton MC who spoke on the possibility of aligning himself with an independent label with MTV. “That seems like a really, really good move where I can capitalize off of all the finances being made off of my music for once, but I don’t know. I kinda like having a lot of help, a lot of assistance from a big label. I don’t know, maybe we’ll have a meeting about a lot of money or I’ll be talking to my conscience.”
Despite his current issues with his label home of lnterscope Records, Game is wasting no time in releasing new music, as he’s already recruited Rick Ross, Drake, Meek Mill, and a slew of other artists for his new mixtape, California Republic. “Everybody from Waka Flocka to Meek Mill, Wale and Ross and Drake [will be on it]. I’m just calling in Hip-Hop favors to get my fans some free music,” he said.
Back in March, Game spoke to Billboard when he first announced the release and said that fans can expect “some new and upcoming artists from out this way,” and that fans “can expect my mixtape to do what it always does, which is consist of a lot of good music and be a lot better than most artists’ albums.”
When asked about the significance of the project’s title, Game said, “Basically California Republic, it’s an umbrella. People come here to do music, a lot of stars are in and out of town for countless awards and what not and everybody appreciates the California sun and everything under it. From the good green, the women, ya know, just our lifestyle. That’s pretty much what it’s about.”
California Republic is set to drop this spring.
